Weir gates are used in many water treatment plants to control/maintain the water level on one side of the gate. Weir gates are also referred to as downward opening slide gates as the slide is moved downwards to allow the flow of water over the top of the slide (weir plate).

Waterman weir gates feature neoprene rubber seals, mounted so as not to interfere with water flow. This produces better sealing for both seating and unseating heads. UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) polyethylene seats are provided to reduce friction. Bars and shapes or extrusions are combined to furnish rigid welded frames for embedding or wall mounting.

A complete line of lifts in single, tandem and side chain-wheel drives are matched with the gate to provide proper operation. Electric motor, hydraulic and pneumatic operators can be supplied.

Waterman weir gates are available in steel, stainless steel
and aluminum.

To permit a rough estimate of the flow, weir gates can be provided in V-notch (triangular) model, Plain, Cipolletti, Rectangular, Sutro or Proportional types.
